New Pump but conditions not conducive to dredging

Our new pump was delivered February 7th, and testing proved it to be even better than the previous one. However, brisk north winds pushed the water out of Vermilion Bay and the connected waterways, so our canal and target pond were too shallow to make dredging efficient. The low water did provide insight to our progress in the pond by exposing the shallow areas of the substrate.

Estimated status of study cells as of February 10, 2012, based on low water observations.

Wildlife sightings included an otter passing by the dredge, feral hog, merlin, kestrel, great horned owl, roseate spoonbills, green-winged teal, gadwall, mallards, avocet, black-necked stilt, alligator gar, and three deer swimming from an island to our backyard.

Report will be posted soon.
